Dr Owens of Alexandria head of the Louisiana State Medical Society warns parents to supervise children around fireworks and urges cautious use as many states have outlawed fireworks. The society plans a state wide survey after July 4 to track the number and nature of injuries and report findings to the Legislature and public.

Three Inches of Rain Drenches Ruston Parish Weekend
Heavy weekend rainfall across Ruston and Lincoln parish totaled 2.82 inches with Saturday the wettest day at 1.45 inches. Flooding and storms affected the Texas Gulf Coast as up to two feet of water stranded residents along a 100 mile coast from Houston to Port Lavaca. Cleanup began as rain ceased last evening and dawn broke over the damp region.
