The Pressure of Federal Spending on Local Budgets
A Ruston columnist ridicules the belief that federal money costs locals nothing and condemns the all or nothing view of defense and welfare spending. He cites the American Municipal Association in San Francisco and warns it erodes city independence by funding both defense and welfare programs, prompting higher taxes or budget cuts. The piece argues residents must face reality and resist overreliance on federal aid.
