New Trio Palms Sausage Plant to Open in Rusk

Dick Stebbins plans a August 1 start for Trio Palms Sausage Company in Rusk. The plant will make premium pork sausage and plans to hire 8 to 10 workers initially, growing to 18 to 20 by winter and 28 to 30 within a year. Local leader Kenneth Birdnell aided the project, which will occupy the former chicken plant on Highway 69. The company will source local hogs and sell across the United States, with a federal inspector enabling out of state trade. Stebbins previously ran a similar operation in Nacogdoches and aims to serve Dallas Shreveport Houston and East Texas markets.

Eagles Drop Kountze Game Postponed Again in Regional Playoff

Rush's Eagles had a best two of three playoff with Kountze postponed due to heavy rains. The second game was set for Wednesday 3 p.m. on Dickerson Field after the first game loss at Kountze last Saturday. Lefty Glenn Hasse pitched well with 14 strikeouts and three hits allowed before Kountze rallied in the seventh to win 3 2. Hasse's season record stands 11 3. The game will be broadcast on KTLA Radio 1580.

Recreation Program At School For Summer Fitness

Coach Lewis Murff announced a summer recreation program for Junior High and Senior High boys. The program includes weight lifting and tennis, basketball, softball, volleyball at the Gym starting Monday June 7. Schedule: High School Mondays Wednesdays Fridays 8 11 30 a.m. and 2 6 30 p.m. Junior High Tuesdays and Thursdays 8 11 30 a.m. Youth in the community are invited to participate by age group.

Grimes Home Struck as Wind Tumbles Tree and Cars

At 1 30 pm Monday a large sycamore in the Grimes front yard toppled during a storm with estimated 65 to 75 mph winds. Two cars were crushed under the wreckage and both Mr and Mrs Grimes were home at the time. The Mustang owned by Chery Grimes daughter was reportedly seriously damaged. No funnel sighted and damage beyond the scene appeared limited to Galatin area.
