Three Guilty Pleas Voiced In District Court

In district court Judge George T. Harris saw three guilty pleas among nine arraignments. Benjamin Cloud 20 admitted taking a car without consent and defrauding with two sentences. Domingo Fuentes 21 pleaded larceny from a dwelling with a three month to three year term. Robert Hundhauser 18 admitted auto theft with a suspended sentence revoked. sentences 1 to 5 years on each count concurrent.

Parking Lot Repairs Progress At City Hall Area

Work continued yesterday on repairing the rear parking lot of Southwestern Public Service Co at 415 N Richardson Ave. Nearby the city hall driveway has been marked with two improvised no parking signs read between signs with the last two words removed.

Bicycle rider dies after crash with truck in Albuquerque

Joseph Baca, 6, died from injuries after his bicycle swerved into a truck. The incident raises Albuquerque's homicide year-to-date totals to 277, compared with 252 at the same point last year.

Roswell Oil Man Quizzed At Hearing

A Senate subcommittee questioned Olen F. Featherstone of Roswell and Denver over filing only part of the required Mineral Leasing Act reports. The hearing examined lease practices, with officials noting limits on federal land in one state and the total acreage Featherstone could control. Featherstone claimed he never exceeded legal acreage and blamed managers for filing notices while aides defended the extent of filings.

Retreat Parade at NMMI Set for Today

The New Mexico Military Institute holds the first regimental retreat of the year this afternoon on the North Parade Ground. Acting Regimental Commander is Cadet Captain Alfred F. Howden of Roswell. The regiment has two battalions, four companies each, and the ninth company is the Headquarters Band with about 60 musicians. Public invited. adjutant's call is 4:45 p.m.

Somoza Dies. Son Named to Succeed as President

President Anastasio Somoza died in Gorgas Hospital Panama Canal Zone from gunshot wounds. His son Luis, 34, was named by Congress to fill the unexpired term ending next May and to serve as acting president. The younger son Anastasio Jr., 32, is tasked with keeping power in the family.

Roswell Attorney Presents Water Paper in Washington

Roswell attorney Charles D. Harris will travel to Washington D C to present one of his papers at a four day symposium on water allocation problems. Sponsored by The Conservation Foundation the event runs Oct 3 to 7 with Harris delivering Thursday morning. His 25 page paper is titled Water Allocation Under the Appropriation Doctrine in the Lea County Underground Basin of New Mexico with the subtitle Flexible Approach to the Doctrine of Prior Appropriation. Harris serves as special attorney for the State Engineer.
