Consumer prices rise 1.1 percent in August 1979

The Labor Department reports a 1.1 percent consumer price increase for August, led by energy and housing costs. Food prices eased slightly, but wholesale food climbed again, with energy driving transportation costs and gasoline averaging 96.7 cents per gallon nationwide.
