Dillon Leading in New Mexico Gubernatorial Contest

Reports from 13 of 31 counties show former Governor R C Dillon gaining momentum as delegates to the state Republican convention form today in Albuquerque. Bernalillo county holds 155 votes and is expected to back Dillon, with 26 already instructed and many precincts reportedly friendly. Overall, 1,233 delegates across Guadalupe Dona Ana and Torrance counties are gathering as Dillon secures support in Harding San Juan and Colfax counties as well.

Praise Roswell for Preparation at Teachers Convention

Robbers at Roy loot rural New Mexico store

Burglars last night entered the Fire Sheim mercantile in Roy New Mexico and seized cigarettes dry goods cartridges and other merchandise with the cash register looted. Police doubt three men who held up the First National Bank at Narivaisa Saturday are connected though a fingerprint expert was summoned to compare prints.

Manchester Kentucky dispatch reports a feud escalating to violence with two men killed and a wounded individual. National Guard troops were mobilized and on duty in the town as authorities investigate the incident. Further details continued on Page Two.

Wreck of Carnival Train Wreck Injures 21 Near Evansville

Evansville Indiana September 19 AP Injuries to 21 persons followed a carnival train en route from Huron South Carolina to Nashville Tennessee striking a string of box cars near Evansville. Captain Elton Denham 83 of Orion Ohio was the most seriously hurt. Initial reports claimed several carnival workers were missing but wreckage search found no one trapped. Three cars overturn carrying equipment and carnival employees. Five ambulances rushed the injured to hospitals.

Martin McCue of Tammany Dead at 57

Martin G. McCue, 57, a leading Tammany Hall district figure, died today in New York. A former assemblyman and state senator, he had served ten years as clerk of the Surrogate's Court and was a contender to succeed George Olvany as Tammany leader before withdrawing for Edward J. Ahearn prior to John F. Curry's 1929 election.

The relief conference for Chaves County planned for next Wednesday September 21 has been indefinitely postponed due to illness in the family of John Tweedy the chairman of the county commissioners.

Democratic County Convention Set For Tomorrow In Clovis

The Chaves County Democratic convention will convene tomorrow at two in the district courtroom of the courthouse to select delegates to the state convention in Santa Fe on September 26, establish a county central committee leadership, ratify primary results, and handle related business. The county has 25 votes at the state convention and 14 precincts held Saturday chose delegates. the old central committee will meet at nine tomorrow to canvass primary results and recertify nominees to Clovis. Five burglars assaulted and looted the J T Crawford store in Friona Texas, tying the marshal C M Jones and taking post office keys. Jones escaped about ten minutes later as burglars fled in a car after midnight. The contents of the safe were not known and tone tools used to enter the shop were stolen from a blacksmith shop.

Liberty Party Holds State Convention in Roswell

The New Mexico Liberty Party met in the Chaves county courthouse at ten this morning with Green P. Patterson of Roswell as temporary chairman. Rev. Edgar H. Johnson of Hagerman delivered the invocation and 12 new members joined the party. The afternoon session was set for two, and Patterson was again elected temporary chairman as the nominating of the state ticket was postponed. Rev. Mr. Johnson gave the keynote, and credentials were among the committees appointed.

Robbers at Nara Visa Bank Identified, Suspects Sought

Three men who robbed the Nara Visa First National Bank of 1600 dollars near Roy New Mexico have been identified by Sheriff Ira Allen. Posse teams scoured hills between Roy and Mosquero as authorities pursued leads while a suspect arrested at Nara Visa was questioned and likely uninvolved. Fingerprint experts aided the investigation as District Attorney J C Compton reviewed the case.

Hollenthoner Will Contest Near Trial Tomorrow

The Roswell will contest of John Hollenthener moves toward trial as deposition from Karl Hollenthener of Jugoslavia is to be read tomorrow. Five siblings challenge the will claiming mental incapacity undue influence and misrepresentation of facts about the estate valued at 25000 dollars. Attorneys Reese and Gessert lead the contestants and administrator respectively. The case began August 15 and was postponed for the deposition.

Tropical Storm Set Course Shift Toward Louisiana Coast

Houston reports the Gulf storm which earlier threatened the upper Texas coast has shifted toward the Louisiana coast. Chief meteorologist L H Daingerfield said there is no longer cause for concern in this section.
