Roswell loses first of four to Raton 6 to 4 as Kelley belts a three run homer in the ninth after Shea had earlier tied the game. Newmeyer and Barngrover pitched evenly for eight innings before Roswell could not score in the last frame. Attendance 450 with Rowley and Hull umpiring.

In Freeport Illinois on September 8 Colonel Roosevelt refused to attend a Hamilton Club banquet in Chicago unless Senator Lorimer were excluded. He demanded a telegram to that effect. The club invited Speaker Cannon and Lorimer, who accepted, prompting Roosevelt to decline. He said his stance mirrored his view of Illinois legislators involved in the matter.
