Democrat Oliver seeks New Mexico secretary of state post

Bernalillo County clerk Maggie Toulouse Oliver applied for the New Mexico secretary of state job after Dianna Duran resigned amid a criminal case. Acting secretary Mary Quintana remains in place until a successor is named and a 2016 special election will fill the remainder of Duran's term. Oliver, the only Democrat endorsed by the Daily Record in the last election, said to be considered among several applicants.

Roswell leaders form shared subcommittees on school issues

Chaves County Roswell Independent School District and Roswell city leaders held a joint work session to create three subcommittees. The groups will cover joint use, legislative priorities, and economic and community development with one representative from each entity. They also discussed attendance truancy and a possible curfew noting enforcement challenges and potential use of child neglect as an angle.

Alarms sounded at 8 15 a m 2100 block Southeast ern Street at 9 33 a m 700 block West Deming Street at 11 12 a m 1400 block South Union venue at 3 20 p m motor vehicle crash at North Virginia Avenue and East Second Street and at 3 30 p m 00 block South Union. From October 28 to 29 the department responded to 15 medical calls.
