Nixon remains in critical condition after surgery complications

Former President Richard Nixon is on the critical list with improved signs after internal bleeding from anticoagulation surgery. Doctors say his vital signs are stable, he has some restlessness and nausea, and blood transfusions were given to counter shock.

Three NM governor hopefuls meet at Albuquerque luncheon

At a Albuquerque Press Club event Republican Joe Skeen Democrat Jerry Apodaca and American Independent Gene Gonzales offered campaign readings. Skeen praised public service and education reforms while Apodaca claimed a 16 point lead though warned the key vote is election day. Halloween Carnival Draws Roswell Youths in 1974 Fun Night

More than 3,000 Roswell youths are expected to attend the Halloween Carnival on Thursday at the Eastern New Mexico State Fairgrounds. The Roswell Optimist Club and Chums and Pals sororities sponsor about 50 booths with half free and no admission. The event runs 6 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. costume parade and nine prize categories.

Stallings weighs run for State House District 58

Stallings of Roswell says if elected he will serve in the legislature though state rules on university employment may require leave or dismissal.
