Roswell merchants report steady Halloween business as candy and costume sales stay strong despite a spike in pumpkin prices and smaller crop yields. Durb's Fruit Market offers pumpkins at six cents a pound, while nationwide sugar costs push up the cost of a Halloween basket.
President Ford announced a major shakeup in federal energy ranks naming Andrew Gibson to replace John Sawhill as energy administrator. Robert Seamans will head the new Energy Research and Development Agency and Bill Anders will lead the Nuclear Regulatory Agency. Dixy Lee Ray becomes assistant secretary of state for environmental and scientific matters. Former President Richard Nixon had a successful hour long operation to stop a leg blood clot from traveling to heart or lungs. Doctors expect a week in hospital and four to six weeks recovery at home with continued heparin therapy and no normal diet initially.
