State Officers Elected at 45th New Mexico Christian Endeavor Convention

Edna Bowersox of Santa Cruz was chosen president of the New Mexico Christian Endeavor Union at the 45th annual convention. The 1941 convention site to be decided later. A Rainbow Jubilee Banquet at 6 pm at the Woman's Club precedes the 60th birthday on Feb 2, 1941. Dr. S J Mathieson of Central Christian Church will speak on New Frontiers at 8 pm at the First Presbyterian. Closing service set for 7 30 am tomorrow at the Presbyterian Church. Creager Granted Conditional Pardon by Governor

Santa Fe Governor Miles issues a conditional pardon to E O Creager after the state supreme court ordered execution. Creager, convicted of rape, must conduct himself lawfully and secure employment. The pardon follows recommendations from Chaves county citizens and also frees Newt Lewis Tarrin and Nick Salazar with paroles already in place.

Sheriff Takes Creager To Penitentiary Then Brings Him Back

Sheriff Young escorted Creager to the penitentiary to serve his sentence but the pardon arrived early and Creager returned to Roswell with the sheriff.

Collision at Seventh and Main injures no one

A 201 taxi carrying six cadets collided with a car driven by Guy H Hooper of Roswell at Seventh and Main at 12 50 this afternoon. The taxi driven by Pete Rogers struck Hoopers car on the right rear fender sending it skidding about 40 feet. No charges were filed.

Continental Airlines officials visit Roswell for route extension review

Robert F. Six, president of Continental Airlines, toured Roswell with fellow executives to discuss the Hobbs to San Antonio route extension. He met with Mayor Thomas J. Hall and chamber leaders while survey flights assessed the proposed path. The delegation included R. Hayter, C. West Jr, R. Hernstein, A. Shelly, Quigg Newton, and Don Marshall of Lockheed.

Governor Miles seeks committee to balance NM school budget

In Santa Fe Governor Miles announced he will appoint a citizens committee to explore ways to balance New Mexico school finances without raising taxes. The Ed Association convention noted a need for 600 000 to 700 000 dollars more annually. Miles urged cutting non essential spending and reviewing use of school funds. The 55th convention adopted resolutions for finance reform, monitoring and governance.

Funeral services for Mrs Emma Gowin held in Roswell

Funeral services for Mrs Emma Louise Gowin were conducted this afternoon at the Talmage Memorial Chapel with Rev G T Reaves in charge. The body will be sent to Amarillo for interment Monday. Survived by her husband Wilks W Gowin two small children her parents two brothers and two sisters all of Amarillo Texas. She had lived in Roswell eight years and was a member of the First Christian Church and the O E S.

Willkie Pushes Questions to FDR at Campaign Stop

Willkie arrived in New York and launched a brisk campaign tour for votes at the World's Fair area. He greeted 7,000 to 10,000 at Pennsylvania Station and declared a victory march. He also welcomed John L. Lewis aboard his train, calling him a strong labor defender as he seeks unity against Roosevelt.

WPA Conference Readies Western States Meet in Salt Lake City

WPA executives from 11 western states converge in Salt Lake City for a three day conference to align engineering WPA activities with national defense. Secretary Hull said the President dispatched a communication to the French government regarding France and Germany talks and their impact on American interests.
