Senator Carl Hatch, campaigning for the Democratic ticket, will depart tonight for Indiana to deliver a series of speeches. He will not return until November 4 to take part in the final Democratic rally in Albuquerque after speaking this afternoon in Alamogordo.
The New Mexico election campaign nears its end with Republicans planning a week of radio addresses while Democrats focus their attacks in Chaves County. Major candidates including Chavez, Miles, Crile, Mitchell, Miera, and Mitchell participate in rallies and informal events across the state as Albuquerque radio talks are set to run nightly through election eve.
Athens reports Italy attacks Greece with ten divisions and Crete and Corfu see British aid and naval clashes. Turkish troops reportedly enter Thrace as Belgrade circles flag possible Turkish war. Metaxas government says Britain offers unlimited support amid ongoing fighting.

A Democratic rally is set for 8 pm at the Junior High School auditorium with speeches by Sen. Carl A. Hatch Sen. Dennis Chavez candidate for re election Clinton Anderson and Robert Valdez candidate for re election as state corporation commissioner If Roosevelt speaks tonight it will be broadcast by radio at the rally amid Italy Greece hostilities. Dinner at 6 15 at Wickson Coffee Shop honors Hatch Chavez and Anderson tickets limited to 100 sold out.
Texas Democrat Joe Bailey campaigning for Willkie told a Junior high auditorium audience that the New Deal administration is filled with communists. He cited Dies committee reports and named Ickes Wallace Hopkins Perkins as examples, claiming 2000 listed as communists draw federal salaries.
In district court the November jury term opens November 18 and runs through the 23rd. Civil juries are set for November 25 and 26. Ray Miller pled guilty to a bad check charge and was sentenced to one to two years in state penitentiary. Several defendants entered not guilty pleas or withdrew prior pleas and entered guilty pleas with sentences pending.
Vandals tore down the bottom half of a large "Demo Willkie" sign above the Willkie headquarters in Clovis. The two story building housed the club’s upstairs office, and officials called the act Saturday night a vandalism incident targeting the Willkie organization.
Joe Hutchinson brought in several rattlesnakes killed yesterday on the Diamond A ranch west of Roswell. Five snakes were killed, two with notably large rattles.
A revival meeting opened yesterday at Church of Christ 424 East 5th Street with good attendance and interest. Evangelist J. F. Lilly conducts the services each evening at 7 30 through the week, closing next Sunday. The public is invited to attend.
On the Willkie campaign train en route to Louisville he called Hulls Saturday speech an extraordinary documentation of New Deal futility. He argued the speech shows the failure to organize a national economy able to rapidly build a defense while touring Illinois and Indiana.
The Record will publish the order numbers of Chaves county men registered under the Selective Service Law as determined by the national lottery. The lottery begins at 10 a.m. Roswell time in Washington, with the Associated Press transmitting each serial number’s order. The Record will verify and print as many order numbers as possible, highlighting an expected 8,000 numbers overall.
The Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of Roswell and Chaves county plan a Get-Together Meeting next Thursday night Oct. 31 at 7 30 p m in the Pythian Temple on West Second street. In Halloween atmosphere no one can say what will happen while all Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, past or present, are invited to attend for an enjoyable time.
President Franklin Roosevelt pressed through New York City on a whirlwind campaign tour amid looming Italy Greece war news. He toured Staten Island and Brooklyn, where he broke ground on an $80 million Brooklyn Vehicular Tunnel project and chatted with Mayor LaGuardia before a massive Lower Manhattan crowd.
Weather report notes fair skies in New Mexico with scattered snow in higher mountains and warming. Colorado sees cloudy conditions with rain or snow flurries in northern and western areas tonight and Tuesday, colder in the east. Arizona remains fair and warmer tonight and Tuesday.
The firemen announce a Halloween Dance at the Armory Thursday night with Gray's Orchestra providing music. Admission is $1 per couple, and everyone is invited to attend.
The New Mexico Christian Endeavor Union closed a very successful convention with an early morning service. Dr. S. J. Mathieson of Central Christian Church Denver gave a notable address on "New Frontiers" focusing on modern challenges such as education religious experience and social issues. Officers for the coming year were elected and announced in The Record.
Mrs C E Mason gave a pep talk at a Young Republicans luncheon held at Republican headquarters at noon today. The event was organized by Miss Mary Mossman and Mrs Francis Egleston.
Funeral services for Adam Zimmerman, a well known Lovington rancher who died suddenly at his ranch 40 miles east of Hagerman on Sunday, will be held tomorrow. He is survived by his wife, two sons Clyde and Bill Zimmerman of Arizona, and three daughters Ruth of Lubbock, Mrs. Lester Alston of Lovington, and Mrs. J. D. Hart south of Lovington, plus a Roswell-born sister Mrs. W. C. Garret.
