New Mexico apparently will not have a state high school athletic commissioner for another year, at least, based on action at the annual meeting of the State High School Athletic Association in Santa Fe. The plan to create a full-time salaried prep school sports czar was referred to a special committee to study and report at the 1941 meeting. The association elected R. P. Sweeney as president and approved naming district vice presidents by mail ballot. District Two nominees were W. Shaeffer and Gerald Davies. District Four-Ben Woodfield and J. Cloyd Miller. District Six H. E. Morgan. District Eight O. Sabin and Seth Poet. The association also decided not to penalize athletes called for military duty, not to require new fan-shaped backboards unless mandated nationally, and to continue the state basket.
