Helicopter Pilot Dies In Fiery Glencoe Crash

John Ardeef a 43 year old Portland Oregon man died when a two blade turbine helicopter crashed in a Hondo Valley yard while stringing power lines for Otero County Electric Cooperative. Witnesses described a turning descent and an explosion as his wife waited nearby. FAA Albuquerque will lead on site investigation. The craft owned by Rocky Mountain HelicoptersDurango and subcontracted to v.W Buck Construction Co of Lubbock.

Senate kills Baker plan on SS-18 amendments in SALT talks

Senate Foreign Relations Committee rejected two Baker amendments aimed at forcing Russian dismantling of 308 SS-18 missiles by 1981 or 1985. The vote followed tense exchanges with White House aide Lloyd Cutler who warned the changes could derail SALT II. Bookworm Scare: Milwaukee Librarian Targets Overdue Martial Arts Books

Randall Allman, 25, allegedly has 67 books overdue at the Milwaukee Public Library and owes nearly $500 in fines. Among the items not returned are Beginning Kung Fu, Blackbelt Techniques in the Martial Arts, and New Manual of Kung Fu, with nine other martial arts titles overdue in his name.
