Police search Artesia New Mexico for a man described as demented after he attempted to abduct eight year old Alice Martin at dusk. He offered directions to her home, grabbed her, but she escaped when the car hit a bump. Officers warn parents to be cautious.
Rev Julian Atwood of the Baptist church spoke on Fellowship at the Rotary meeting stressing its meaning and duties in life. Rotarians heard updates on inter city Juarez meeting, Carlsbad Cavern invite responses, and plans for next week at The Woman's Club.
The Democratic women of Chaves county invite Mrs. Phebe K. Warner of Claude Texas to address a Roswell audience in support of the Democratic cause. If she accepts the meeting will be held in the county court room for men and women. Known nationally as The Little Brown Wren, she spoke here last year to the State Federation of Woman's Clubs and is a national figure in the General Federation of Woman's Clubs.
B F Robbins owner of the Missouri Avenue addition announces a sale of the addition but will delay it until after November first as he returns to his home in Big Springs Texas. Meanwhile grading and graveling of streets and other improvements continue on the property.
In Alamogordo on October 13 more than 100 children enrolled at the New Mexico School for the Blind. The fall term opened with most students arriving Sunday, accompanied by teachers and governesses from across the state, mirroring last year’s enrollment on this date.
The preliminary for Shaves, Curry, Lincoln and Roose velt counties in the Atwater Kent nationwide radio audition begins Saturday at 11 o'clock in Roswell First Methodist Church South. Ages 18 to 25 may enter by notifying Mrs John Martens at 408 West Hendricks. One male and one female will advance to the Albuquerque state contest, with later winners moving to Dallas and then New York for prizes totaling 15000.
Albuquerque and Santa Fe defendants Pr R 2 Hust and Harry Kechter faced murder and criminal abortion charges in the death of Mrs Justine Harrington Elms. Trial adjourned in district court to Monday for resumption.

Former Governor R C Dillon running as Republican for governor assured Silver City outdoor enthusiasts that there will be no political manipulation of the state game and fish department if elected. He urged a non partisan Game Commission and defended his past record on game conservation and opposition to political assessments. He praised local interest in conservation and pressed for a permanent, intelligent program to protect game for the future.
A meeting of the Chaves County Women’s Republican Club will be held in the Chaves county court room at 3 o’clock in the afternoon on October 21. The membership committee plans a week of active recruitment and a large attendance is expected. Addresses will be delivered by Mrs. Clark Baker, president, J. M. Hervey, county Republican chairman, and Mrs. C. E. Mason.
Roswell football fans plan trips to Lubbock to watch Texas Tech play the Notre Dame B team on October 28 night. Tech appears strong this season after a 7-0 victory over &MU.
Vice President Charles Curtis will address attendees at the Greeley Union station Tuesday afternoon on his way to Denver from Cheyenne. Also in town is Will Shaw, formerly of Roswell, visiting from Topeka.

Ber nalillo county leaders of the third party outlined plans for a Progressive mass meeting in Albuquerque on Saturday to decide whether to nominate a third ticket for county offices. Democrats and Republicans have already named their candidates.
Santa Fe reports that in the first thirteen days of October the gasoline tax refunds totaled 15,382 dollars, according to Mrs. Adolph P. Hill, state gasoline tax collector. September refunds reached 44,965.72 dollars, with payments issued to individuals buying gasoline for nonhighway use rather than vehicle propulsion.
Edward Romange 65 of Elephant Butte Dam New Mexico died from injuries after his car ran off a highway near the dam where reservoir superintendent R J Schmalhausen was killed last Saturday. Romange is survived by a brother in New Orleans.
Albany Oct 13 X Roosevelt prepared to speak tonight at 10 o'clock about relief policy and welfare questions from ten organizations. The talk precedes a 3,000 mile campaign trip through 16 states with planned stops in Rochester Buffalo Pittsburgh Wheeling Indianapolis Springfield St Louis Louisville Atlanta Raleigh Richmond and Baltimore. Some speeches will be broadcast nationwide.
President Hoover addressed the American Bar Association at Constitution Hall urging lawyers to defend the judicial system and the Supreme Court against assaults and to simplify procedures to make law effective. He warned against false prophets and urged purging unworthy members from the profession and supporting uniform anti machine gun laws and scientific crime detection.
President Hoover plans a large Cleveland address as part of a pivotal state campaign. About 10,000 will fill the main hall with another 3,000 in the music hall, plus basement and street audiences reached by amplifiers. officials expect 20,000 in all. He will address Republican workers then make brief appearances before the basement and street crowds.
Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes addressed the crowd, stating the republic endures and the new Supreme Court building symbolizes enduring ideas. He warned of unrest and lawlessness while asserting the court’s permanence as a protection of constitutional principles amid national distress.
Estancia New Mexico October 13 AP Hope Montgomery was named chairman of the Veterans division for the Democratic campaign in New Mexico. The announcement stated Montgomery will organize veteran support across the state for the party.
From Portales, Mr and Mrs G W Carr and Mr and Mrs J W Carr were in Roswell today.
Mr and Mrs James F Hinkle arrived in Roswell yesterday from Santa Fe and will stay the rest of the week.
