Federal Home Loan Bank Officers Visit Roswell

Officials from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Little Rock arrived in Roswell to attend a directors meeting this afternoon and the League of New Mexico Building and Loan Associations annual session slated for tomorrow. R. H. McCune of Roswell invited the visitors, photographed recently in Little Rock. Most of the group plans to attend both events.

Germans Press On Amid Heavy Losses In Moscow Bid

Reports from the Russian front quote Red Star and dispatches that Nazi forces push toward Vyazma and Orel despite enormous German casualties. Mayor thanks Dempsey for Roswell flood protection effort

Drop In School Attendance Here In Roswell

Total enrollment in Roswell at the end of the first month was 3290 up 29 from last year. Average daily attendance stood at 3015, down 30 from the same period a year ago, attributed by Superintendent J D Shinkle to flood conditions.

Break In The Hondo Repaired Water Put Back In River

A temporary dam was installed in the Hondo River about 11 miles southwest of town, restoring flow to the old channel. About half the river water had run through the break, flooding Roswell areas. The Ed Bloom land bend is the breach site, same spot as 1904. The Blooms and Browns built barriers and hayed the dam, seeking CCC help to cut a new bypass channel about an eighth of a mile long to straighten the river and prevent future breaks.
