Trapped flood waters flowed into Hobbs from a 20 mile lake behind a railway embankment. Artesia faced rising Pecos River levels but relief came as water dropped. More rain threatened southeastern New Mexico as moist air moved from Mexico and flooded areas. The city saw hydrant and yard flooding with schools and hospitals affected and highways limited to trucks.

Private Sentenced To 33 Years For Desertion To Reds

A 17 year old Roswell boy was ordered sent to the New Mexico Industrial School at Springer by District Judge George T. Harris. He had been picked up on June 22 for theft of automobile accessories and paroled to parents with monthly reports to juvenile counselor Pat ONeill. He received two traffic citations for improper muffler and reckless driving and attempted a ruse at Worley Auto Sales to obtain a radio from a 1948 Ford, then failed to report the citations as instructed.

Officer Dies in Climbing Organ Peak
A coroner's jury ruled the death accidental in a weekend climbing incident on Organ Peak near Las Cruces. Second Lt. John G. Armour, 23, from Massilon Ohio, died after slipping while aiding fellow officer Second Lt. James R. Loonam of Tacoma Washington who fell 150 feet to a crag.
