Forty May Be Dead In Cloudburst In Sunny California

Bakersfield Calif Oct 3 AP searchers in Tehachapi area hunt for more victims of Finlays cloudburst that swamped canyons with a 45 foot wall of water. Death toll believed near 40 with eight bodies recovered and thirteen known dead. Dozens of unidentified itinerants rumored swept away. Names recovered include Louise Kadd and Peter Kadd and their son Peter Kadd Jr. Also Nell H. Cooper and several others reported missing.

Missing cadet found after El Paso flight alert

Cal Barnett, Roswell airport manager, received a telegram at 7 30 this morning from Major Gasney in charge of the flight of 17 Kelly Field cadets. A cadet had not arrived at El Paso and assistance was asked to locate him. A later telegram at 8 45 announced the cadet had been found. The telegraphs did not name the cadet or reveal further details.

Wifie Takes Couple of Shots at Husband

Albuquerque police reported Gabriel Martinez twenty five, who said his wife shot at him, had a head wound but was not hit by a bullet. He was treated at a hospital and released after doctors deemed the injury caused by a fall amid his alcohol effects. The wife was questioned and not held.

Central Committee Meets in Chaves County

The Republican central committee for Chaves county met at the courthouse Saturday afternoon naming an executive committee and various other committees and plotting a vigorous local campaign. Oldtimers Day inviting former governor to Roswell parade

Former Governor R C Dillon accepted an invitation from the Oldtimers committee to attend Roswell Old Timers Day next Friday. He will ride in the parade and join the barbecue amid plans to secure a top saddle horse. Governor Arthur Seligman regrets he cannot attend due to pressing business.

Treasurer's report shows September balance and receipts

The report by county treasurer Mrs. W C Holland states a September 30 balance of 57,468.65 with an opening balance of 77,447.03. Receipts totaled 7,2135.65 and disbursements 27,194.03, with tax collections for the month at 5,695.90.

Two killed in auto accidents near Albuquerque

Albuquerque police report two fatalities from weekend crashes near Five Points and Pajarito. Mrs. Gertrude D. Duran, 34, died en route to hospital after being struck crossing a road. Ricardo Sedillo, seven, of Armijo, died later. Matias Sanchez was held by sheriff after being captured by a neighbor and accused of striking Duran. police investigate if he fled the scene.

Santa Fe Oct 2 AP The Southern Pacific railroad told Hugh Williams chairman of the state corporation commission that it has withdrawn its order cancelling Sunday service on the Dawson Tucumcari branch pending investigation of complaints. Williams said the commission notified Roy and Mosquero to meet with railroad officials to try to reach an agreement. no hearing will be held unless the towns participate.
