Washington reports urgent U S warnings for all Americans to depart Japan promptly as extended talks with Japan near a decisive phase. A similar appeal was issued for Americans remaining in China amid rising pessimism in Tokyo press and expected major diplomatic moves in the near future.
Major J. G. Armstrong acting commander of the Roswell air base said bids for construction of permanent buildings runways and utilities south of town would be issued within ten days. He noted a 20 day bid advertisement period and that contracts would start about a month later after bidding.
Mrs. Ima Dell Rich Moon 28 of 802 West 8th Street died from a skull fracture after a 8:42 am crash at 8th and Lea. Her 1937 Chevrolet collided with a 1931 Ford driven by Ray Curlee 18, who was injured. Moon’s 4 year old son and sister Jessie Rich rode with her. boy unhurt, sister shocked with a broken tooth. Moon had lived in Roswell seven years. funeral plans pending Ballard Funeral Home. Curlee, a Roswell High senior and Coyote football standout, lives at 1803 North Garden Ave. Authorities may hold an inquest.
New Mexico lawmakers urged that Albuquerque Roswell and Carlsbad be named defense housing priority areas. A San Francisco field representative would visit within a week to assess action. Albuquerque faced a 3000 to 4000 officer shortage due to Barksdale Field arrivals. Roswell spurred by a $10 million twin engine bomber base. Carlsbad tied to a plant for potash byproducts for magnesium.

Edwards of Albuquerque perished when the plane crashed November 17 during a routine flight, likely struck by a downdraft and hit pine trees before reaching Bear Canyon.
London reports the Libya battle still rages with heavy losses on both sides and a possible fresh climax. British forces near Sidi Omar found Axis transports possibly signaling a break near the Egyptian Libyan border. British ships bombard the Libyan coast. Rommel claims encirclement of British forces and a submarine torpedo attack.
Santa Fe New Mexico, November 26. Undersecretary of the interior J J Dempsey said the federal Bureau of Mines may send inspectors to evaluate New Mexico mineral deposits for strategic metals to aid national defense. He spoke after a meeting with Governor Miles and state geologist John Kelly, also noting Pecos River flood plans and pending reclamation service reports from Roswell area surveys.
President Roosevelt accused Time magazine of printing a disgusting lie about Chilean President Pedro Aguirre Cerda and said the article aided Axis propagandists in South America. He said the United States government has apologized to Chile for the piece, provoking general indignation. Time editor Henry Luce defended the press despite the dispute.
The Elks Club sponsors a refresher course for young men to qualify as aviation cadets. British and German reserves poured into the Rezegh fight where the Libyan campaign’s largest battle was developing on the plateau south of Tobruk. A German tank thrust crossed into Egypt between Sidi Omar and Halfaya Pass as a diversion. British bombers and artillery targeted German tanks, with reinforcements arriving as Rommel hurled reserves to push toward a decision, while London predicted both sides would unleash full efforts. The desert battle’s outcome could determine Libya’s fate.
Santa Fe reports state engineer Thomas McClure says New Mexico's Gila river water rights should be safeguarded amid Phelps-Dodge copper expansion plans at Morenci Arizona. If government approval comes, about 10,000 acre feet of water annually may be diverted from the San Francisco river, reducing Coolidge reservoir storage and Gila allocations to irrigation districts including 2,400 acres in New Mexico's Virden valley.
Judge Compton dismissed the manslaughter charge against Lovell Wilson on DA motion. The case linked to a Roswell Clovis road accident that killed a Chicago family of four. Lisbon reports indicate yesterday's earthquake caused only slight damage, the most violent here since 1755. The Madeira and Azores islands were shaken, but the epicenter appeared to be in the Atlantic with the full force spent harmlessly.
Major Armstrong will speak on the opportunities offered by the Army Air Corps in a radio talk from 5:15 to 5:30 p m Friday. The broadcast, arranged with the Elks Club refresher course, aims to help young men qualify for enlistment through the program.
Capt Clarence F. Vogel air corps procurement officer for New Mexico will be at the local army recruiting office in the post office building Thursday and Friday from 8 to 5 to interview young men for enlistment as aviation cadets. This program helps men without college credits qualify for the cadet course, sponsored by the Elks Club.

In Albuquerque New Mexico on November 26 a motorist parked an untagged car illegally. Police Sgt Walter Coleman climbed in to drive it to the station finding the driver Jack Burch had left tire patching cement in the front seat. Burch was fined five dollars for no license tags.
