British air forces clash in violent raids over Birmingham and the midlands as Greek forces continue to defeat Italian troops. The onslaught causes great damage while British defenses drive invaders back. Japanese hopes for peace fade amid intensified combat.
Berlin reports Romania joined the Nazi Axis today, extending the bloc toward the Dardanelles less than 250 miles away. Premier Ion Antonescu hailed a new order while Bulgaria and Slovakia were set to join. Turkish defenses tightened and Moscow warned any attack would meet resistance.
A widespread winter storm, fueled by a westward cold front, dumps heavy snow across northern New Mexico and the extreme southwest. Six inches fall on mountain roads near Rodeo Douglas, with snow plows deployed on major highways in Colfax and Union counties. Snow also blankets northeastern Arizona near Winslow. the National Weather Service in Albuquerque predicts colder conditions tonight and Sunday with snowfall easing tonight and clear weather expected Sunday.

Thomas Shipley 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 years for forgery. Sanford I. Osbourn 5 to 7 years under habitual criminal act. B. Turner 3 to 5 years for embezzlement and bad checks. Jack Chancey and Earl Martin 3 months for giving liquor to minors and 11 to 12 months for abduction. Ed Ehret 1 to 2 years for grand larceny. John Narmore 90 days for assault with a deadly weapon. H. P. Edmondson 45 days for selling liquor without a license. Jefferson E. York acquitted of assault with a weapon. Two civil cases settled. jury excused.

Mesilla police constable Rafael Lucero faces trial on assault with intent to kill Wilbur Gray of Tulsa after an incident outside a Mesilla tavern on May 25. Gray testifies he was struck while being arrested as the party left. Two students recount seeing officers pursue Gray and one student says he knocked a constable down.
British ambassador Lord Lothian told New York that Great Britain was beginning to come to the end of her financial resources. He made the remark on his return to the United States aboard Pan American Airways' Atlantic.
Radio messages report two British ships and a Swedish freighter torpedoed about 400 miles off the Irish coast. The Anten remained afloat after taking survivors from the Tymeric aboard. Blairesk and Tymeric were built in the 1920s and 1910s, with Blairesk sailing England to Canada and Tymeric England to South America before the war.
Automobiles driven by Jack Crow and William H. Brett collided at Fourth and Lea at 9 05 last night. No injuries reported though both vehicles were considerably damaged. Traffic policeman Keller investigated.
Four Chaves County volunteers announced by the local selective service board will depart Monday for Fort Bliss to be inducted. Names include John Edward Johns age 21 of Roswell, Charley Banes Walker age 31 of Roswell, Willard Claudell Rowin age 24 of Roswell Route 2, and Luther Rice Callahan age 26 of Roswell Hotel. They depart at 1 15 pm by bus, completing the county quota of six men under the first call.
The entertainment committee of the Chamber of Commerce announced two dates for charity programs. The first is Friday evening November 29 at East Grand Plains, the second December 6 featuring Elkins school with Circle Y, Frazier, and Kenna. Programs offered free, with sixteen previous community events highlighted.

In Columbia South Carolina on November 23 a 12 year old Swansea Boy Scout Jim Fort Rast, the youngest to volunteer for the army's 8th Division, was turned down for duty but invited as guest of honor by Major General Philip B. Penton. He touted his 95 average and bugle wish, and the general praised his heart and spirit while inviting him to visit the division and meet the troops.
President Roosevelt announced Admiral William D. Leahy retired admiral and Puerto Rico governor will become ambassador to France to succeed William C. Bullitt. Hassett said nomination timing is not yet set and Pershing declined the post on medical advice.
In Albuquerque on November 29 the state merit system commission announced eligible registers will be set from about 300 of 400 exams. Dismissal for those failing to register will take effect December 15. Affected locations include Las Vegas insane asylum, Raton miners' hospital, Springer industrial school, Las Lunas mental detectives school, Albuquerque girls welfare home, Hot Springs Carrie Tingley hospital, state police, and ports of entry.
Ramon Burrola pleaded not guilty to a perjury charge in J P Court. He waived preliminary hearing and was held to district court under a $1,000 bond.
Roswell begins the thirty-fourth Christmas Seal Campaign to fund year round TB education. Mrs. Frank Young, general chairman, notes the campaign supports anti tuberculosis work and that campaign materials arrive for the November 25 drive opening at committee headquarters.
