Ray Bennett assistant state highway engineer died yesterday in Santa Fe at age 53 after a period of illness. He had served the department for 18 years.

Employment Ages Lowered by NYA Office in Carlsbad

Snow Deepens Across Northern New Mexico Trails

Snow continued across northern and east central New Mexico with higher elevations receiving fresh falls. Albuquerque reports colder tonight while main highways stay open though chains advised on side roads. Ski areas anticipate heavy weekend crowds with eight to nine inches in Carson National Forest and good conditions at Sandias and Tesuque Canyon.

Warren Johnson Dies In Albuquerque Roswell Veteran

Warren Johnson 53, a Roswell resident and World War II veteran, died Wednesday night at the Albuquerque Veterans Hospital from a heart ailment after a short illness. He lived in Roswell most of the past 18 years, worked as a carpenter for L. S. Croissant, and was born in Lexington Missouri. Survived by daughter Dorothy in Missouri, parents Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Johnson, brothers Dewey Roswell and Ralph Lexington, sisters Mrs. Joe Dunn San Francisco and Mrs. O L Stockton Roswell and Mrs. S P Robinson Lilbourn Missouri. Lee Jones Can’t Find His Family

Los Angeles, Nov 22. H Lee Jones of Santa Fe New Mexico reports his wife Madge and children Marvin 14 and Carole 4 missing after he believed they headed to Los Angeles last Saturday. He told police they were to meet at Earl W Scotts home. Police could not locate the Scotts but learned the wife had the street address.

Artesia Man Hurt In Auto Accident

Paul Stroup a 35 year old Artesia resident suffered a compound fracture of the right leg when his northbound car left the highway near Hagerman at 430 yesterday afternoon. The Hatch brothers from Lake Arthur in the other car had minor injuries. Police attributed the likely driver to LeRoy Hatch. Stroup was hospitalized in Artesia. Investigating troopers were Scroggins and Burnett.

Narmore Convicted in Assault with Deadly Weapon

John Narmore was found guilty by a district court jury of assault with a deadly weapon after striking C. B. McFadin with a pistol. Other cases included Jefferson E. York charged with stabbing J. C. Jones, H. T. Dean pleading guilty to drunk driving, and a charge against Matt Purcella dismissed. Sentences set for tomorrow morning.

Mrs H M Dow's 1939 Lincoln Zephyr sedan stolen here the night of November 15 was recovered this morning at Comanche Texas. Two Artesia boys both juveniles were arrested. The car was recovered through reports broadcast by the police radio station here.

New Mexico dairies produced 3 555 000 pounds of creamery butter 712 000 pounds of condensed buttermilk 463 000 gallons of ice cream and 41 000 pounds of cottage cheese last year according to the agricultural department.

Aid to Britain Near Peak Says Roosevelt at Press Conf

President Roosevelt told reporters at Hyde Park that aid to Britain was near its peak under current conditions. He noted the 50-50 rule for American production shared between Britain and the United States for planes guns and other war equipment. He said changing that rule to favor Britain was too general a question amid intensified German attacks.

Lions Toy Drive Planned By Roswell Lions Club

The Roswell Lions Club will hold its annual toy drive tomorrow morning to collect gifts for underprivileged children at Christmas. Residents are urged to place toys on their front porches early. Boy Scouts will collect them and firemen will repair and repaint the donated toys.

Former Roswell Man Killed at Hobbs

Lee Leavelle, former Roswell resident, died in a Hobbs motorcycle crash Thursday morning while employed by Barnes Electric Company. He ran a battery shop in Roswell for years before moving to Hobbs four years ago. Survived by wife, daughter Peggy Jean, parents, two brothers in Amarillo, two sisters in Artesia and Big Spring. Burial planned in Big Spring, Texas, Saturday afternoon.

Mrs Margaret Harbert a resident of Roswell for three years died this morning at six o clock after several days of critical illness. Born October 26 1880 in Berryville Arkansas she moved from Neosho Missouri where she lived many years.
