Border Patrol use of force report released amid demand for transparency

The Police Executive Research Forum reviewed 67 use of deadly force cases from 2010 to 2012 and found agents sometimes fired on rock throwers or fleeing vehicles, prompting revised guidelines prohibiting firing at moving vehicles or rock throwers unless imminent danger existed. The report was kept private until Commissioner Kerlikowske backed public release. The release followed legal pressure from the ACLU and immigration activists who urged openness.

Albuquerque VA patients shuffled to non treating supervisor

In Albuquerque, VA records show many patients needing a primary care physician were instead assigned to a medical supervisor who did not treat patients.
