Scouts Place Flags at City Cemeteries Before Memorial Day
The Scouts placed flags on veterans graves in the city's two cemeteries ahead of Memorial Day. Parents of the Scouts are Mr and Mrs Jimmy Stogden of 321 E Hervey St and Mr and Mrs Steven Gonzales of 336 E Bonney St.

The Chaves County Flood Control Commission seeks used concrete to line the Spring River banks between Garden and Atkinson avenues. Chairman Jerry N. Smith said the commission is equipped to haul and place the material.

Absentee Vote Deadline Approaches for Chaves County Primary
Dorothy Herring Chaves County chief deputy clerk announced the 5 p.m. Thursday cutoff for absentee voting in the June 6 primary. Mail-in absentee applications are closed. voters must cast in person at the County Courthouse. Registered voters now 23,861, up from 19,312 in 1976.
