Unusual collision between cabin cruiser and car near Guntersville

In Guntersville Louisiana an auto and cabin cruiser collided when boat controls jammed and it jumped from Guntersville Lake. Officers Barnett and Stone noted the boat struck a highway causeway and partially entered the road. Mrs. Jesse Lee Isdell suffered a possible skull fracture and facial injuries.

Area Farmers To Get More For Sorghum

Senator Clinton P. Anderson announces a new agricultural act raises sorghum net price by 20 to 22 cents per hundredweight for eastern New Mexico producers. The act sets parity supports at 76 percent, about 1.97 dollars nationwide and 1.88 locally after storage deductions. It also adjusts cotton acreage allotments and restores long staple cotton within the import quota system.

Motor Scooter Fatality Raises Toll to 133

An 18 year old Ramon Enriquez of La Union died after his motor scooter collided head on with a pickup driven by Rodolfo Fernandez 17 also of La Union. The crash occurred at 8 15 p.m four tenths of a mile west of State Road 28 on a road to La Union. Enriquez died of internal injuries and Fernandez was uninjured.

Forest Fire Threatens Ruidoso Near Post Office

A forest fire near Ruidoso, about one mile south and west of the Post Office, was spreading with ashes falling in town at 1:15 pm. Mescalero Apache firefighters were to be called, as a wind shift to the east at 1:20 pm offered a possible reprieve. Ham radio operators including Roy Baker of Baker's Pharmacy and Pat Lowe of Roswell coordinated aid and standby stations in the area.

Baseball Fund Passes Mid-Mark

The Roswell baseball guarantee fund reached $5,200 by mail this morning. Committee members praise the large, diverse, mail-in response showing broad local support for keeping professional baseball in Roswell. With more returns expected in two days, the plan aims to finalize before the next home stand on June 8, when a Pontiac is given away.

Outdoor commencement marks 63rd NMMI graduation
