Anderson Chavez Vote Status On Road Bill Shown

Senators Anderson and Chavez voted with the majority twice and with the minority once as the Senate considered the Highway Bill. They supported the federal prevailing wage provision and opposed the Knowland amendment allowing states to set wage rates, while opposing the Capehart amendment on interstate apportionment.

Jesse Jones on Critical List in Houston

Jesse H. Jones, 82, financier and former Houston Chronicle publisher, remained in critical condition at St. Luke's hospital. He has been hospitalized since May 9 and has been under an oxygen tent part of the time.

Dog Vaccination Drive Resumes in Dexter Hagerman Lake Arthur

A vaccination program halted by a bottleneck has been reinstated as of yesterday. Tom Procter, county sanitarian, said the shoots will run 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Dexter Hagerman and Lake Arthur fire stations, with sessions in Hagerman Friday and Lake Arthur on June 4.

Memorial Day address by Lake J. Frazier at Roswell service

Lake J. Frazier former DAV commander and ex mayor told a crowd at South Park Cemetery that patriotism must endure in peace as well as emergency. Memorial Day rites were led by veterans groups with Taps by Jerry Knoedler and a wreath for the unknown soldier.

A showdown is expected soon at the State Finance Board over the rate of interest New Mexico banks will pay on state funds. Banks now pay 1 percent on deposits over 100 000. The board asked State Treasurer Joseph B. Grant to survey banks and report back.

Traffic Fatalities Rise During Memorial Day Holiday

New Mexico County Officials elects leadership at 1957 convention

Jesse Kornegay of Santa Fe County was chosen president at the New Mexico Association of County Officials closing session. Henry Salazar of Belen was reelected first vice president and Paul Whiteman of Raton was named second vice president. Roswell selected as 1957 convention city with A B Martinez Jr of Santa Fe as corresponding secretary. Dorothy Herring of Roswell and Emma Scofield of Lordsburg were reelected recording secretary and treasurer respectively.
