Memorial Day Observance Honors Confederate Veterans in Roswell

Confederate Veterans and auxiliary groups plus citizens held Memorial Day ceremonies in Roswell. A three hundred strong procession from the courthouse formed at three and went to South Side cemetery where graves of Confederate and Federal soldiers were decorated. Rev. Henry F. Vermillion delivered a brief address as J. T. Evans read names of sleepers while white-clad girls scattered flowers. Flags were placed on each grave and a mound for unknown dead was decorated before benediction by Commander Foreman.

Fierce Storm Sinks Schooner Off Cleveland Breaker

A fierce storm swept Lake Erie early today sinking the schooner Mabel just outside the Cleveland breaker. One unknown sailor drowned. seven crew members were rescued after a hard fight. Captain Gotham and Mate Gun nison were badly hurt while being taken from the vessel.
