North Viet Nam says air pause a deception in war

The North Vietnamese foreign minister calls the six day suspension of U S air attacks a bid to camouflage intensifying bombing. A U S Navy raid on a petroleum depot near Hanoi followed the lull and Washington officials say North Viet Nam did not respond. Fulbright notes possible diplomatic gains but Rusk and McNamara opposed halting bombings.

Roswell High Plans 700 Seniors Graduation June 3

Seven hundred Roswell High School seniors will receive diplomas during commencement on June 3 at 8 p.m. at the municipal stadium. Baccalaureate on May 30 at 8 p.m. in the school gym features Dr. Austin H. Dillon as speaker, with Rev. Elbert Hanes reading scripture and Rev. Raymond Pritz giving the invocation. Music by the Advanced Chorus directed by Joe Carroll.

Best Laid Plans Go Awry In Tulsa Baby Birth

In Tulsa Oklahoma Mary Jane Higgins 25 and her newborn daughter were fine after a dramatic birth Curtis Higgins 25 handcuffed himself to his wife to be with her at Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital. Police were called but officials told them no action unless a violation or a complaint. a hospital lawyer advised doctors to proceed. The 5 pound 6 ounce girl was born about 25 minutes after the call. The husband later released himself and was not present for the birth. Higgins had previously aided a birth at their rural home for their older daughter aged two.

Roswell Mayor Seeks U.S. Help to Bring Korean Sister Home

Roswell New Mexico mayor Gail Harris urges President Johnson to aid in reuniting Chun Moon Hee, an 18 year old from Pusan living in Korea with her brother Fred Schueneman in Roswell. Funds were raised to transport her, but Korean red tape blocks processing and extra fees are demanded.

Consolidation of Suits Denied in Water Rights Case

Motions to consolidate the L. T. Lewis and Hagerman Irrigation Co. water rights suits were overruled by District Judges Garnet Burke and E. T. Hensley Jr. The court set a 20 day objections window and will consider final judgment procedures, special water master appointment, meters, costs, and federal government status later. The cases, brought by the State Engineer's Office and Pecos Valley Artesian Conservancy District, concern underground water rights in the Roswell Artesian Basin.

Roswell man gets ten to fifty years for armed package store robbery

District Judge George Zimmerman sentenced Adolpho Rameriz of 1508 S. Jackson St to 10 to 50 years in state prison after a Roswell jury found him guilty of armed robbery in the February 2 holdup of the Roswell Package Store at 511 S. Main St. Witnesses identified him by walk and facial marks. the defendant claimed innocence.

Walker Man Declared Dead in Viet Nam Explosions

Capt Vernon L. Haynes, previously missing, is declared dead by authorities in Viet Nam. He died of multiple shrapnel wounds from the Bien Hoa Air Base explosions. His wife Maxine and three children live at 68 Will Place, Walker Air Force Base, Roswell. Information released by the U S Air Force casualty branch.

Professor Says Education Fails to Meet Challenges

Professor Ernest C. Melby of Michigan State University told 2,000 National PTA delegates in Albuquerque that the education system breaks down with disadvantaged children. He argued the profession has not adapted to an industrial, automated society and compared schooling unfavorably to hospital diagnosis and care.
