Flagman Killed on Remote Ranch Near Portales
A young flagman named Joe Patrick Chavez about 18 was struck and killed by a crop spraying plane on the Davis Brothers Ranch near the Roosevelt-Chaves County line southwest of Portales. Test Well Deal Finalized by PVACD and USGS Near Roswell
The PVACD approved a 24000 exploratory water well five miles north of Roswell on the Berrendo school site, funded equally with USGS. The 1500 foot well will run six months, then be tested for salinity before plugging. PVACD also set a 1965-66 tax levy of 0.5 cents and a 1965-66 budget of 285425, with allocations for salaries, legal costs, labor, logging, water rights, and debt retirement. The board rejected Valley Water Users Association objectives and opposed metering without favorable accounting.
