Adrift for 32 days ends with rescue miles from Guam

Frank H. Cushing and his son Frank Jr. were rescued 1,400 miles from Guam after 32 days at sea. Found near Camiguin Island in the Philippines, the Cushings were aboard a raft, well and provisions intact, after drifting from Guam while seeking reef fish for Frank Jr.'s collection.

Navigator Trainees Visit Walker for Project Resonance

Fifteen navigator student officers from Mather AFB California travel to Walker Air Force Base for a three day orientation program called Project Resonance. The SAC initiative aims to broaden their understanding of SAC missions and career opportunities. They will dine with crews and observe life on the wing including mission planning alerts and training and view the wing command post armament and a B52 before returning home.

Stations Seized in Bolivia Strike Over Exiled Leader

Bolivian troops seized two radio stations Contiental and Ex celsior after pleas to support a labor confed eration strike protesting the deportation of union leader Juan Lechin. The strike neared day three with tin mines and textiles halted, while Barrientos urged workers to reject leftist leadership and return to work.

La Joya ISD to Seek Consolidation Into Belen After 1965-66

The La Joya Independent School District plans to ask the New Mexico Board of Education to consolidate into the Belen School District after the 1965-66 year. La Joya High School students would attend Belen, while elementary pupils remain in La Joya under Belen jurisdiction. A centrally located grade school is proposed and the La Joya board would be dissolved after consolidation. Santa Fe reports petroleum pollution in the Rio Grande are disputed by State Engineer Steve Reynolds who cites no oil or gas pollution in the river and notes salinity in the Pecos from salt cedars.

Roswell Figures Attend Polaris Submarine Launch

Warren Cobean Sr. will attend the George C. Marshall launch at Newport News Virginia. His son Warren Cobean Jr. serves as Navy representative at Newport News Shipbuilding during Marshall construction and Commander Cobean previously captained the James Monroe gold crew. Former Roswell residents Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Blakestad also attend. Mrs. Blakestad is Cobean’s daughter. Sources say Wednesday he would not command a crew on the Marshall after launch.

Insurgents Fade in Santo Domingo Strike Fades

Troops loyal to the Dominican junta captured the main rebel radio station in Santo Domingo as insurgent resistance in the northern suburbs appeared to collapse. U S. troops reported 19 dead and 99 wounded, with five American soldiers wounded by sniper fire. Negotiations for a possible cease-fire remained unresolved.

Fifth and sixth graders at Del Norte experiment with a new art form titled Space Concepts Through Aestheometry. Threads and curves create space lines, teaching geometric patterns and perspective as teachers Lois Parker Janet Roberts and Don Smith promote the approach. Anderson learned of the form in summer school and is publishing a book on the concept.
