Avalanche on Zugspitze Kills Dozens and Traps Many
A spring avalanche on Mt Zugspitze near Garmisch Partenkirchen buried a mountain hotel and slopes. As many as 40 feared dead, 11 bodies recovered by nightfall, 25 to 30 still missing. Rescue teams from Germany Austria and the U.S. worked through the night aided by dogs and detectors. The 9719 foot peak is Germanys highest and a noted ski site.

Bombing hits Bien Hoa base in Viet Nam Blasts

Chaves County Club Lamb Sale Nets $2800 in Roswell
Buyers from West Texas and New Mexico attended the Chaves County Club Lamb Sale at the Eastern New Mexico State Fairgrounds in Roswell. They purchased 121 lambs for about $2,800, averaging $22 with a top price of $80. The top lamb was sold by Kunkel Brothers of Dexter to Hatch FFA. About 200 people attended, with lambs from breeding projects by 4H and FFA members in Chaves County.
