Soviet diplomat's wife commits suicide in Moscow
In Moscow, Leongina Shevchenko, wife of UN official Arkady Shevchenko, died by an overdose of sleeping pills. Her body was found in a closet at the family apartment where she lived with her 16 year old daughter after returning from New York in April. Her husband, Arkady, had resigned from his UN post amid government defiance and rumors swirled of affairs and drinking.

Botulism Victim Dies After Clovis Outbreak
John Garrett 65 of Clovis died in a Texas hospital from botulism complications after 25 days in intensive care. The New Mexico health chief noted 34 people were stricken at the Colonial Park Country Club restaurant in Clovis between April 9 and 13, with eight still hospitalized and seven on respirators.
