Dexter Weighs Curb and Gutter Plan for 20 Blocks

Dexter officials consider a curb and gutter project covering 20 blocks with eight on the west side and twelve on the east. A second legal notice was published and a protest meeting set for 8 p.m. May 25 at Dexter town hall. Mayor Theo C. Garrison explained the higher cost of 2.40 per front foot, noting the city lacks funds for corners and alleys. He said the project area would drain and paving may follow if affordable, with contract letting expected mid June and work to start mid July. Dexter lies 17 miles south of Roswell and already has 32 paving blocks, many on farm to market roads.

Battleship barrage hits Wonsan as U N forces strike Korea

Four Chaves County Districts May Be Combined

Four Chaves County school districts seek merging into one unit if the State Board approves. Elk District 13, Lower Penasco 14, Dunken 15, and Flying H 17 would form a 60 pupil district. Santa Fe 41 year old former New York advertising man C B Duke Mayshark was named state tourist director succeeding Melvin Drake after the State Highway Commission narrowed a field of about a dozen applicants to three. Senate weighs $100000 to continue New Mexico vote probe

The Senate debated a $100,000 request to extend an investigation into last November's New Mexico senatorial election. House leaders indicated funds may be delayed but not immediately halt the probe, as the subcommittee already has about $58,833 unspent and a $10,378 monthly payroll.

Communists offer new plan to break truce deadlock

In Panmunjom the Communists proposed an eight point plan to resolve the prisoner exchange stalemate. It favors a five nation neutral commission to custody 48500 prisoners who refuse to return to communism and sets four months custodial period with two months to send home those willing. The Allies seek government approval before comment. The proposal would replace prior plans for immediate removal of nonreturning prisoners to a neutral country.

Boys on 80 MPH freight ride to Elmira jail

Four boys aged 8 to 14 rode a flat car headed west at 80 miles per hour from Binghamton to Corning. The youths climbed aboard at a crossing on their way to a ball game, then rode until the train halted. Police arranged their return to Elmira and contacted their parents.

Southeastern New Mexico District Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold a special meeting at the Veterans' Building in Artesia at 2 p m Sunday. Motorcycle DWI Cases Reported By Judge Ballard

Orval W. Jones rode a motorcycle and pleaded guilty to DWI in Judge R. L. Ballard’s court and received the customary penalty of 10 days in jail.
