Chaves County Farmers Expect More Crop Acres in 1973
ASCS official Tom Hoover reports that favorable market demand and farm program changes point to expanded crop acreage in Chaves County for 1973. Sign-up for feed grain wheat and cotton ended March 16 with about 400 farms enrolled. cotton farms have zero set aside. Total set aside acres drop from 9 217 last year to around 750 this year, freeing land for alfalfa hay silage and pasture, aided by a first time allowance of set aside land with payment reduction. Farm program sign-up reaches about 100 percent of eligible farmers.
