World Conference Proceeding with Open Agenda

Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald announced the world economic conference would not adjourn but continue work as subcommittees tackle momentous issues behind closed doors. Organizers of New Radical Party Speak Here

W C Tharp state organizer of a new radical labor political party spoke in the county court room last night. He outlined a state convention on August 6 with five delegates per county to select delegates to a national convention next fall or spring. He said the party may absorb socialist and other radical groups if a strong platform is adopted. A county convention to elect five Chaves county delegates will be held later, convened by H G Rauert. The state convention site is not yet decided.

Two Spanish Fliers Lost In Old Mexico

Mexico City June 23 AP. The Mexican government mobilized air and marine bases across Southern Mexico to search for Capt Mariano Barberan and Lieut Joaquin Collar two Spanish officers missing since Tuesday on a Havana to Mexico flight. Citizens aided in the unprecedented hunt after reports of their sighting over Villa Hermosa Tabasco. Officials note a safe landing would complicate a takeoff due to engine start requirements.

Italian Seaplanes Fly To Chicago Fair In Series Of Hops

Artesia New Mexico June 23 AP The New Mexico Road Oil Company has been granted permission to incorporate in the state. It purchased the Dayton Refinery plant at Dayton formerly the Sullivan Refinery and will refine crude oil from the Getty field southeast of Dayton to be sold as road oil. A low gravity crude is produced in Getty and the unrefined crude has been used with success by the state highway department. A crew is repairing the refinery and production is expected to start next week.

At Orbetello Italy a 25 plane Fascist air squadron completes take off drill for a dawn departure on a six thousand one hundred mile trans Atlantic flight to Chicago with 24 planes. The route runs via Reykjavik Londonderry Cartwright Shediac Montreal and Chicago then returns southward.

Fire destroys Foxworth-Galbraith yard in Deming NM

Deming New Mexico June 23 AP fire completely destroyed the Foxworth Galbraith Lumber Company yard and property in the early hours. The loss was estimated at twenty thousand dollars.

800 Library of Congress workers and a 40 Democrat count

A Beverly Hills report notes 800 people work in the Library of Congress. It claims only 40 are Democrats and cites a total salary of 773660 dollars, accusing waste of about 750000 dollars. The piece urges buying dollars while rates are favorable.

Hitchhiker Found Unconscious Near Albuquerque

Robert Stovall a 25 year old hitchhiker from Trenton New Jersey was found unconscious on the Santa Fe Albuquerque highway six miles north of Albuquerque He remained in a hospital there for a spinal injury He was traveling across the country and carried papers in his suitcase outlining his medical instructions in case of another collapse Physicians treated him after he regained consciousness later that night

Rain totals near Alamogordo drought ease with crops in view

Alamogordo N M June 23 AP continued rains yesterday and last night raise total rainfall to about three inches in the past week with heavier amounts in the mountains. Farmers and stockmen are jubilant over the storm. Leslie Beaty Otero county agent says prospects are good for bumper crops in the mountain section. Beaty also notes an increase in truck acreage especially head lettuce and predicts 125 carloads of truck garden produce will be shipped from Otero county this year.

A seven member Chaves county relief committee was named by appointment to manage all relief matters in Roswell area. Woman killed in accident on Taos highway near Alcalde

Mrs. John T. Alexander of Coronado California was instantly killed when a tire punctured by a nail caused a crash on the Taos highway west of Alcalde. She was driving the car and was thrown from it. Survived by two daughters Mrs. John E. Baker of Lake Forest Illinois and Mrs. Paul J. Healy of Paris.

Barker selects two assistants for New Mexico DA post

Santa Fe June 23 AP Names of two assistants recommended to the department of justice by W J Barker, the new U S district attorney for New Mexico, include State Sen C E McGinnis of Roy with 25 years as a lawyer and Eugene D Lujan, former district attorney of Albuquerque. Barker said the staff will be cut from the staff who worked in former Ss to two.

Stamm urges fishermen meet state license rules in time

Albuquerque June 2 AP Raymond Stamm president of the State Game Protective Association urged fishermen to meet the six month residency requirement for a resident license or face a $30 fine. He warned both license buyers and those who vouch for them can be prosecuted. He noted recent rains may complicate fishing this weekend with muddy lower streams and clearer waters higher up, and rivers should clear quickly for fly fishers.

The Roswell Kiwanis Club joins Kiwanis clubs worldwide for All-Kiwanis night next Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 on the J. P. White building roof garden. Hobbs Allowable Increased by Shell in Lea County Pool

The Shell Petroleum Corp increase of 4,000 barrels daily in the Hobbs Pool raises the last half of June top to 33,502 barrels daily. Shell Pipe Line Co runs 18,000 b/d, Humble Oil 9,630, Atlantic Pipe Line 4,500, and the Texas Co 1,374. Allowable is 25 percent on acreage and 75 percent on potential. There are 179 units with 197 wells. Hobbs pool potential rated at $1,301,545 b/d. 40 acre unit yields 47 b/d plus potential. Stanolind Oil and Gas Co, with 49 wells on 47 units, tops at 5,760 b/d. Shell’s 4,150 b/d is second, Humble’s 3,673 b/d third. Recent crude price hikes haven’t spurred new development. activity remains routine with two Lea county wells added. A test on Continental Oil Co.’s Wells No. 1 boosted Jal area output to 1,200 b/d. drilled to 3,408 ft, previous test was 1,000 b/d. A perturb gauge was placed on Amerada Corp.’s Hardin No. 3, gauging 25 b/d with 800,000 ft of gas. One Eddy county well, Brainard No. 4, is abandoned dry. A small gas flow reported in Root No. 2, Dee Lockhart et al., at 1248-50 ft. Artesia Advocate.

Santa Fe June 23 AP Rep Carl F Whittaker of Bernalillo County says a special session of the legislature is necessary because SJR21 tax levy limit will be ratified and two offsetting acts have been suspended by referendum petitions He also believes the session would amend the Lane liquor bill viewed as too stringent with high license costs.

Seattle reporters noted a powerful North Pacific wireless station hearing a mysterious SOS and aeroplane signals tied to missing around the world flyer Jimmy Mattern. Ed Stevens and a Bremerton naval-radio operator heard the Russian message smuggled in as RMAZ from a vessel near Vladivostok, suggesting contact from a Russian ship.

Last Group Air Cadets Here Today

The final group of army air corps cadets from Kelly Field San Antonio landed at Roswell airport for their graduation flight. Seven cadets and three officers flew own planes from Ft Sill Oklahoma to El Paso, then back to San Antonio. First plane landed 9 40 this morning. last plane departed 11 30. Chamber of Commerce provided lunch. Two other cadet groups stopped in Roswell this month on graduation test flights.

County Officials Say County Can Pay All Bills

Due to heavy tax collections this month, Chaves county commissioners report they can pay all bills. County clerk June and George Foreman says prospects are good for sufficient funds to cover June bills and close the fiscal year on July 30 with the county owing no money.

The city filed fourteen suits for delinquent occupation taxes yesterday. Hearings are set for next Monday at 10:00 a.m. before L Id Johnson, justice of the peace, with city attorney Howard Buchly representing the city.

Gasoline prices rise again in Albuquerque area

Gasoline prices jumped in Albuquerque on June 23, boosting retail ranges to 16 4 1 2, 20 1 2 and 23 1 2 cents per gallon. The increases follow refinery price hikes over the past weeks, with last week’s retail at 14, 17, and 29 cents. A half cent was added to cover the federal tax.

Widow of former state gasoline tax collector dies at 61

Louise Gentz Galles, 61, widow of L W Galles who served as state gasoline tax collector, died suddenly at her home. Death attributed to heart failure. She was a lifelong resident of the state.
