Britain Seeks End to Tientsin Crisis With Japan

London reports Prime Minister Chamberlain announced simultaneous talks in London and Tokyo to settle the Tientsin dispute. Move More Oil Out of State: New Mexico Plan

Truck Overturns West Near Six Mile Hill

Dwight Addy, driver of a Sunset Creamery truck, was pinned in the wreck six miles west past Six Mile Hill at 5 30 this morning. He was cut and bruised but not believed seriously injured. The steering locked and brakes failed, he told state police sergeant Jack L. Nichols who investigated. The truck left the road, hit rocks and rolled over, badly wrecked. Addy, on his regular run to Ruidoso, waved to Curtis Stewart at Woodman’s Service Station, then a cloud of dust and crash signaled the accident. Stewart and three others freed Addy after the load shifted, pinning him at the wheel. his head went through the windshield. He was taken to St Mary’s hospital in a Ballard Ambulance. Mrs Woodman notified officers and had the ambulance sent. Addy was removed from the truck before arrival. Woodman and Mrs Woodman hold Red Cross first aid certificates. Chaves county hosts a Red Cross first aid station at Woodman’s Station.

Painting Exhibit Showcasing Best Of Week Arts in Roswell

An exhibit by Federal Art Project artists opens at Roswell Museum Federal Art Center for the rest of the week featuring oil watercolor tempera and gouache works. A display of archeological material includes Casas Grandes pottery from southeastern Arizona and two cases from the Bloom Mound Pueblo excavation near Roswell. Photographs and documents from early Roswell and old Lincoln are also on view.

Devastating Minnesota Tornado Claims Ten Lives

A Sunday tornado swept seven towns near Minneapolis causing extensive damage. Ten people died, about 60 were injured, and losses reach around 500000 dollars. Notable victims include Mrs Anna Freeman Ebien Freeman Mrs James Bradley James Bradley H G Groat Leo Kidd Ernest Syring Edward Morrissette Walter Isreal and Fred Zimmerman. The fatalities included a four person family whose car was overwhelmed by the wind near Corcoran. The storm wrecked 40 to 50 buildings and left Anoka hardest hit with many homes collapsed. The auto involved in the fatal crash contained Mrs Freeman her daughter Eien and the Bradleys. The vehicle was hurled and demolished. The body of the others perished in collapsed houses. New Mexico Receipts and Expenditures Detailed by Census Bureau

The Census Bureau reports New Mexico per capita revenue rose from 25.11 in 1932 to 57.41 in 1937, while per capita expenditures grew from 15.60 to 29.87. Education dominates costs, with schools and charities driving much of the rise. Revenue sources include sales taxes and grants-in-aid, and 1937 expenditure shares cover education highways and charities. The 1937 debt was 15.24 million, or 36.12 per person, with 422,000 population used for per capita calculations.

Three youths hurt in auto accident in Albuquerque

In Albuquerque New Mexico three youths were injured when a car in a tag game overturned yesterday. Lucy Trujillo 16 suffered a broken leg Refugio Muniz 19 sprained back and Sally Bachechi 16 had cuts and bruises. Charges of reckless driving and driving without a license were filed against Muniz and Daniel Santiago 20 the driver.

Westover Services Held For John O Westover At Roswell

Funeral services for John O Westover age 72 were conducted at Ballard Chapel at 2:00 p m with Will Robinson officiating and Mrs Otis Brenneman providing music. Interment followed in South Park cemetery. He lived at 501 North Atkinson street for nearly fifty years and leaves his wife Josie four children and two sisters.

Tracking Down A Fugitive Slayer

Hayward Wisconsin June 19 Led by bloodhounds a large posse hunted a fugitive killer Ray Olson wanted for theft and the slaying of two deputies. They used airplanes bloodhounds and tracked through the Chippewa river flowage and Moose Lake area after Olson was last seen seven miles from the search center. A note found in Hay Creek suggested he planned to end his troubles as authorities pressed the search with about 200 deputies.

Hammer Slayer of Husband Escapes Marysville Prison

Velma West, 33, who beat her husband to death 12 years ago, escaped today from the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville. Three other prisoners also fled with her, and a truck driver later sighted three women near Marysville. West confessed the murder after a bridal party outing. The other escapees were Virginia Brawdy, Florence Sheline, and Mary Ellen Richards, all serving related crimes.

Wounded Robbery Attempt at Ribera Store in Las Vegas

Onofre Gonzales and Manuel Pacheco attempted to rob a Ribera store in Las Vegas New Mexico. Gonzales was wounded in the legs by proprietor Basilio Griego who then fired. both robbers were captured after a pursuit to San Jose. Gonzales was hospitalized. Pacheco jailed in San Miguel county awaiting charges.

Amsterdam reports Krakatoa erupted today flinging Java to about 30,000 feet. People flee as the volcano roars in Sunda between the Indian Ocean and the Java Sea. The 1883 eruption killed 36,500 and leveled 300 villages.

Drowned on Sunday outing at Glenwood resort

In Catron county at Glenwood, John Pino a 27 year old Mogollon miner and his three year old son drowned when their raft capsized in nine feet of water during a Sunday outing. Five others were rescued. The bodies were recovered and taken to Magdalena for burial.

Congress Hastens to Pass Money Bill by July First

Washington June 19 Congress moved to clear a business tax revision while senate leaders sought a two-year extension of presidential monetary powers. House Ways and Means Republicans argued the tax plan does not sufficiently boost business, with passage expected by nightfall. Monetary legislation would extend authority to devalue the dollar and maintain the $2.6 trillion stabilization fund, allowing Treasury to buy domestically mined silver at above world prices.
