The Roswell American Legion Auxiliary dedicated an ash tree at the courthouse lawn to Chaves County World War soldiers. The photograph shows Mrs. Leroy Walker with the flag, Lake J. Commander of Lost Squalus Testifying Before Board

Portsmouth N H June 20 Lieutenant Oliver F Naguin commander and last survivor to leave the submarine Squalus began his official account before a naval board by waiving his rights as a defendant He said he felt no blame for the sinking and abandonment of his command He traced his submarine career from 1929 and noted more men than usual were on board for the trial when the disaster occurred He described the Squalus last dive and used the Sculpin for a demonstration before the inquiry.

Posses Seek to Catch Slayer Olson in Wisconsin

Hayward Wisconsin June 20 Deputies pursue iron limbed Ray Olson in a grim hare and hounds chase after two amateur deputy sheriffs were slain. Sheriff George Seehuetters posse trails bloodhounds to Chippewacee camp as district attorney says Olson is wanted on a stolen property warrant. Olson fled after shooting deputies Fred Scott and Carl Johnson when they attempted to arrest him at Indian John Blue Sky shack last Saturday and has since disappeared.

Airline service assured for east side New Mexico

Mayor Charles L. Allison released a telegram from U.S. Senator Dennis Chavez stating that the Post Office Department has authorized an additional airmail route on Continental Airlines between Albuquerque and El Paso. The service, effective June 15 or soon after, will include stops at Carlsbad Hobbs and Roswell once arrangements are set.

Youth Held For Father's Murder in Raton NM

John Pobar a 16 year old Raton high school student was held without bond in district court on charges he murdered his father George Pobar a Moreno Valley rancher last June 11. A preliminary hearing yesterday set the stage for trial as the youth described the shooting from behind a bush near the ranch house. His attorney claimed the elder Pobar cursed beaten him and once threatened his life. The boy may plead temporary insanity arguing he acted after being struck with an iron pipe on June 4.

State Education Board Makes Changes

The New Mexico State Education Board reorganizes supervision by uniting high and elementary divisions and calls bids on six groups of texts and readers to replace the old titles. Grace Corrigan will head the new instruction division with a chosen assistant.

Scarborough In Critical Condition After Shooting

W. F. Scarborough, a wealthy Midland rancher, lay in critical condition from pistol wounds sustained at his ranch near Scarborough. His son Hollis Scarborough, 41, was charged with assault with intent to murder as district attorney William Kerr described ongoing statements and an operation had been performed with a blood transfusion from C. House Passes Tax Revision Bill With One No Vote

Washington June 20 4 The House approved a business tax revision bill by 358 to 1 to repeal the undistributed profits tax and extend excise levies for two years. Rep Tinkham of Massachusetts opposed excise taxes and offered no concessions to corporations. Senators move to sign by weekend to avoid revenue lapse, as the nuisance levies would raise about 650 million annually. The bill likely passes to President Roosevelt with minimal changes.
