Congressional leaders moved quickly to pass a $150,000,000 drought relief bill to aid drought stricken states. The measure authorizes loans to farmers and ranchers unable to obtain credit and includes seed and feed grants and loans.
Reading at three hour intervals from 2 PM yesterday to 11 AM today shows temperatures around 95 to 83 degrees with a high of 96 and a low of 68. Precipitation none in the 24 hours to 11 AM today. 2.15 for month to date and 5.03 year to date. Sunrise 5:08, sunset 7, day length 13.9 hours. Clouds increase with scattered sprinkles or light showers. temperatures little changed.
News reports say Allied and Communist forces near the Korean DMZ are gradually pulling back from the truce line with a 10 p.m. Thursday deadline. Troops salvaging fortifications, equipment, and lumber along a 150 mile front while reports of friendly contacts surface despite warnings against fraternization. Six Americans and about 100 Chinese bodies recovered at the Western Front outpost known as Boulder City as Marines refuse to remove Chinese remains.

He has been treated for an unspecified hip ailment since July and faced mixed bulletins as his condition fluctuated. Mrs Taft and two sons visited. son William Howard Taft III, ambassador to Ireland, planned to fly in.
Harry James the war horse of baseball joins Patsy Allen and the Roswell Chamber of Commerce baseball committee to lead advance ticket sales for Chamber of Commerce night at Fair Park stadium on August 5. An elaborate 45 minute fireworks show will precede the Roswell Rockets versus Odessa Oilers game, aiming to be the largest advance sale in Roswell history.
