City water recycling plan shifts use from farms to homes

Northglenn Colorado proposes a $31 million system to borrow up to 8000 acre feet annually from Farmers Reservoir and Irrigation Co. for city use then treat the wastewater for irrigation. Farmers would receive 10 percent in water credits while nutrients in the recycled water cut fertilizer costs for farmers.

Little resistance as Kent State police clear protest camp

In Kent Ohio police armed with nightsticks arrested between 150 and 180 protesters defying a court order to abandon a tent city on the Kent State campus. The arrests included the father of one slain student and two wheelchair users. Deputies roped off the area and prepared to remove tents after orderly takedowns. The demonstration opposed a $6 million gym annex near the deaths site.

Soviet hijackers surrender plane to Finland

Two Soviet skyjackers, Alexander Zabrinjak and Gennady Seluzhko, surrendered to Finnish authorities after commandeering a Tupolev 134 between Petrozavodsk and Leningrad. Finland plans to extradite them under a 1974 anti hijacking treaty. they face 3 to 15 years in the Soviet Union.

Tenants weigh options over Roswell rent boosts

LEAA approves contract funds for Segal engagement

The Federal Law Enforcement Assistance Administration retroactively approved an $11,900 consultant contract between law professor Bernard Segal and Attorney General Toney Anaya. LEAA director John Maclvor said written approval was sent from Dallas to Santa Fe after federal funding clearance. Anaya said approval was not sought before signing on May 13 and noted verbal approval was given later in June.

Parole Granted for Watergate Figure G Gordon Liddy

G Gordon Liddy, Watergate mastermind, wins parole effective Sept 7 after his sentence is reduced by President Carter from 20 to 8 years. Parole set at minimum security Allenwood PA where he will have served 52 months. His lawyer Peter Maroulis notes his disappointment at missing summer with his wife and five children in Oxon Hill MD. A $40,000 fine remains to be disposed of by law.
