Lt. Col. James H. Morris of San Antonio piloted three B 52 bombers that logged over 24 000 miles in 45 hours 19 minutes. He said jet tankers could shave about six hours from the round the world flight and that in flight refueling would let the B 52s fly as long as crews withstand fatigue.
In Poland's first popular vote under Gomulka's regime the 459 member Parliament drew heavy turnout with about 16 million of 17.4 million qualified voters going to the polls. Official results due soon show the United Workers Party likely to secure a substantial majority though some ballots were crossed off the single Communist list as a mild protest.
Two Naval Reserve pilots were killed when their planes locked wings and crashed in Albuquerque. Lt. Cmdr. Charles R. Walton 38 from Wheaton Illinois a Glenview NAS commander and recipient of a Navy Cross died with Lt. Jerome H. Fisher 33 of Urbana Illinois. The crash occurred during a routine training flight to Miramar NAS San Diego with one parachute failing to deploy. Both bodies were recovered near the wreckage while Cmdr. Preston of Glenview led the formation.
U N efforts press Israel to pull back troops by a Thursday deadline. Israel proposes Gaza administration with local and U N police, while Egypt rejects occupation. Osborn returns to Santa Fe to continue the legislative term and sponsors bills on litter, rural electric co ops, and education policy.
Eight year old Sarita Ann Boswell in Durham faces heart surgery to remove a growth with a four minute heart halt. A nationwide donor drive seeks O Rh negative blood as volunteers rush from Rocky Mount and across North Carolina for the operation at Duke Hospital. An artificial heart lung will circulate blood during the procedure.

Albert Gonzales, 21, a night watchman, lay in critical condition at Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital after being stabbed at a north Alamogordo cafe. A 12 inch knife wound pierced his chest near the heart as a jukebox cigarette vending machines were smashed and the cash register looted. A juvenile suspect was arrested in connection with the burglary and attempted murder and was to appear in Alamogordo Juvenile Court.
In Washington under warm skies six miles of marchers musicians and multicolored floats joined President Eisenhower and Mrs Eisenhower in the second inaugural parade. The procession moved down Pennsylvania Avenue at a brisk pace past 61 000 seats and stands for some 700 000 observers. The theme Liberty and strength through consent of the governed highlighted a 30 000 dollar float nearly 408 feet long.
LAS VEGAS AP report says a warrant for blackmail is being served on publisher Herman Greenspun and private investigator Wilbur McNich in a case alleging they tried to blackmail District Judge J Sexton. The complaint was announced by Lander County Sheriff Don Maestretti.
