FDA Allows Hyperthermia AIDS Blood Treatment Trial
The FDA sanctioned a hyperthermia study for AIDS, permitting 30 patients to undergo a heated blood treatment to raise body temperature to 107.6 degrees. The process heats blood to 114 degrees outside the body before reinsertion to raise overall temperature, a method critics call risky and previously linked to a misdiagnosed case. The July approval permits six U.S. patients through a partnership between IDT Inc. and HemoCleanse Inc.
