Roswell police report two accidents linked to snow and ice on Thursday amid icy roads. State police logged 30 Friday week accidents in Chaves, Lea and Eddy counties with some in icy conditions. A Six-Mile Hill outage affected western Roswell for 38 minutes as ice and winds caused lines to fail. See See-Snow Page 5.
Roswell officials face a budget gap after bids for the civic center surpassed the $2.4 million target by more than $500,000. Cornell, Inc. of Clovis offered the low bid at 2,984,461 for general contracting, while Ray Ward & Sons, Inc. of Anthony, NM came in at 3,129,700.
Seven local residents were named to the Fifth Judicial District Nominating Commission as the drive for a third District Court judge advances. Roswell attorneys Michael Stout James Jennings Tandy Hunt Charles Coll and Marion J Craig III plus city councilor Adrian Martinez and District Judge Alvin Jones will sit on the 18 member panel with residents from Eddy and Lea counties. The commission will recommend to Gov Gary Johnson who will appoint the judge from seven applicants seeking the position. The process opens at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Chaves County Courthouse with a public comment period followed by interviews open to the public. Applicants include Genanne V. Anderson Jo Ann S. Jaramillo William P. Johnson Jeanne M. Lahrman William P. Lynch Arnold J. Olsen and Freddie J. Romero.
