Taxes Drive Water Rights Push and County Tax Shifts
The PVACD plans to use a 4 mill tax increase to buy water rights in the Pecos River basin and shore up the Roswell Artesian system. Chaves County lowers its property tax by 1 mill to 9.35 mills while approving three gross receipts tax increases totaling 0.375 percent to fund a $15.1 million jail renovation and related needs.
