Chaves County to Hike Taxes for 2015 to Fund Projects
Chaves County and the Pecos Valley Artesian Conservancy District plan tax increases in 2015 to fund projects. Shoppers face a 0.375 percent rise in gross receipts taxes starting July 1, while PVACD raises its levy from 2 mills to 4 mills for 2014, with offsetting county relief of 1 mill pending the 2015 bills. Local officials cite water shortages and aquifer declines as the rationale, noting higher bills for a $100,000 home and detailing district board actions and a July loan from First American Bank.
