Steamer Berlin Lost Off Holland in Terrible Gale

In a violent gale off the coast of Holland the steamer Berlin foundered with all but one of her crew and passengers lost. The lone survivor is reported ashore with injuries and is being aided by local authorities. Rescue efforts are ongoing as boats search the area.

A German steamship Berlin bound from Harwich to the Hook of Holland wrecks in a southwesterly gale off the Hook. Of 141 aboard, 90+ passengers drown. only one Englishman survives. The forward section sank immediately after striking a jetty, with life boats unable to reach the crew and passengers. Rescue efforts were hampered by rough seas.

County Road Grader Busy on Local Roads

The county road grader finishes east Second Street and the road south to the R. P. Bean place and now continues the Second Street road toward the Northern Canal.

J F Patterson today moved his harness store to new quarters in the Garst building. The elegant new shop offers better space for stock and display of leather goods. He invites friends to cross over to the east side and visit the upgraded location to attract new customers.
