H Hurd is appointed as receiver and the name is sent to the Senate for confirmation in Roswell. The action assigns H Hurd to oversee designated duties. Senate review and potential confirmation are anticipated in the coming session.
President nominates Harold Hurd for Receiver Public Money at Roswell New Mexico, over incumbent David L. Geyer in Buffalo Wyoming, with endorsements from Governor Hagerman U S Attorney Liewllyn and Roswell supporters. Hurd a New York trained lawyer and Spanish American War veteran, wife Lucy Knight and son Harold Jr., Roswell Wool and Hide Co. president.
New York on February 22 Mrs Evelyn Nesbit Thaw has a three day rest before continued testimony in the case with District Attorney Jerome. The trial adjourned until Monday morning and she is expected to testify all day Monday detailing her life and connections with Thaw and White as more details emerge.
The cross examination aims to plant doubt about Evelyn’s testimony and whether her story about White drove Thaw to derangement. The jury must decide if persistent belief in her account rendered him unable to know right from wrong when White was killed.

A Rock Island through freight derailed nineteen miles north of Amarillo as it ran on Ft. Worth and Denver tracks. Nine cars left the rails and five were demolished. L. C. Halsey of Hobart Oklahoma was killed in a lumber car. Derailment blamed on defective ties.

Captain Parkinson of the Holt line was the sole survivor to reach shore after the Berlin wreck near Hook of Holland. Dutch lifeboats labored 30 hours to rescue ten survivors from the after part as fierce seas and a snow storm hindered efforts. The Berlin broached and collapsed in heavy seas before crashing on the pier head.
