In Kingston Jamaica a mass meeting condemned Governor Swettenham for blocking military aid. Citizens adopted a petition to parliament seeking 750000 dollars grant and 50 million dollar loan to aid rebuilding. Dead still being recovered from ruins, with at least 1100 killed.
Philadelphia Feb 20 The plurality for Congressman John E Rayburn Republican over William Potter Democratic City Party candidate was 33 000 Fusionists lose the mayoralty but gain two seats in the Select Council and fifteen in the Common Council forming a stronger minority than in years past.
Washington February 19 a conference among the President Speaker Cannon and Representative Watson led to a near agreement to push the ship subsidy bill through this session of Congress.
New Britain Connecticut February 20. William F Walker former treasurer of the Savings Bank of New Britain is reported as a victim of sharpers and disreputable brokers. A statement from the banks committee says $180 000 of securities remain unfound though a few have been traced.
The City Council granted Dr G T Veal permission to close the alley in block 5 Roswell to create space for an amusement park for the cattle men's convention in April. Veal left for Dallas to arrange a skating rink ball park and other amusements for the convention week. He aims to hire a worthwhile amusement company and will be away about ten days.
The Senate retains Reed Smoot as a member, confirming his seated status in the chamber.
