Roswell police and the Chaves County coroner probed the death of 31 year old James McNeal of Christa Lee Manor Apartments found in about 20 feet of water at Cottonwood Lake in Bottomless Lakes State Park. Coroner Dr Lee F Wollard said the death is still under investigation and official reports are not complete. McNeal was reported missing earlier in the day by his employer at Clardy Campbell Dairy after a note suggesting he could not face his problems was found at his home.
Rep. Colin McMillan and Rep. William O Donnell push a memorial to audit the State Highway Department via the Legislative Finance Committee. The HAFC killed a separate bill for an interim highway study with $40 000, saying LFC staff can handle the review. The memorial notes highway budget equals 15 percent of state expenditures and cites unsafe conditions on many highways.
