Roswell district schedules a 7 30 p m special meeting at Goddard High School Little Theater to reconsider a state funded extended school year ESY study. Supt Luginbill notes the plan is for study continuation not immediate implementation with input from Valley View Illinois district and others.
A Navy A7 Corsair struck the Tahoe Apartments in Alameda California causing a massive fire. Six people were found dead by mid morning and as many as 40 may have perished with 17 injured. The pilot Lt. Robert Lee Ward was missing. Fire crews battled heat and debris as residents of Navy families occupied the complex.
Senate Bill 241 proposes a $355,440 capital improvements package for the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell over three years, including air conditioning, upgraded sports facilities, and a band practice area. The measure was introduced by Sen. K. E. Thompson of Roswell.
