Roswell voters select Stuart Shanor and Dr. Morton Dann for six year terms on the Roswell Independent School Board. Shanor led with 1 305 votes in a seven candidate slate for position one while Dann won position two with 1 703 votes in a five candidate race.
Stuart Shaner and Dr. Morton Dann win six year terms on Roswell Independent School District Board after close tabulations. Voter turnout rises from 3038 last cycle. runners up include Hazelwood, Marley, Zuniga, Szabo and Escolas. Canvass pending at 1 p.m. with new board joining Mitcham Patterson and Prichard.
A Chaves County Farm and Livestock Bureau meeting appointed a five member committee to seek a change in the New Mexico Drug and Cosmetic Act to allow purchasing dangerous drugs from state veterinarian supply houses. The group, with an ex officio member, heard that current rules force drug purchases through licensed vets or pharmacists, raising costs for care and limiting timely animal treatment.
In Littlefield Texas a school bus collided with a train killing four children and three teenagers. Investigators found driver Artiss Johnson 68 held only a commercial operator license issued July 24, 1972, not the chauffeur license required for public school buses. Seventeen people were injured. three remained critical.
Voter interest shown by total ballots cast varies with how many positions are open each year. A 1968 April special election filled five seats after the Chaves County and Roswell districts consolidated into Roswell Independent School District.

Allen R. White and Dr. James E. Gaba won Artesia district board positions one and two. White edged Isauro Gonzales 783 to 570, while Gaba triumphed over William R. Mayes 991 to 307. Incoming six year terms begin in March. total votes 1,370.
