Paris declares a second categorical denial that France responded to the Vatican’s protest over the expulsion of Mgr Montagnini. A cable sympathizing the Vatican was sent by Knights of Columbus to Cardinal Merry del Val. In Peoria the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen reports no comment on the Southern Pacific strike beyond Grand Master Harrahan’s planned departure to take command.

Christmas was observed generally in Roswell with small dinner parties and many gatherings made up of family branches. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. White entertained. Miss Nina Rabb hosted a noon dinner for guest Miss Nevada Temple of Artesia, with several Roswell young ladies in attendance.

Farewell Reception for Dr and Mrs Lukens

A Christmas afternoon farewell for Dr. Charles E Lukens and his wife drew about 100 guests at the Walker home. The party, organized by the Presbyterian church and friends, presented gifts including a gold headed umbrella and a silver tea set. Dr Lukens plans to move to California with his family for their son’s health, while continuing church and medical work, with visits to Roswell and Albuquerque planned.

Christmas Treats for Poor Children at M. E. Church

Christmas entertainment at the M. E. church drew a full house with a hundred turned away. The Sunday school provided treats not only for its members but for about a hundred nonmember children from poor backgrounds in attendance.

Dexter man dies of pneumonia on Christmas day

R L Barber aged about 35 died at his Dexter home after a short pneumonia illness on Christmas afternoon. He had lived in Dexter about a year and his remains were shipped Thursday to Glasgow Missouri for interment with the widow to accompany the body. Marriage license issued Christmas day to Felix Taylor and Harriet Goodall both of the county. they were married by Justice Bailey. Mrs N Dailey arrived from Wichita Kansas to visit her sister Evelyn and brother George and their mother. Ed Kinsinger and wife went to Artesia to visit friends.

Four Die and Twelve Injured in Rail Crash Near Milton

An interurban passenger train and a work train collided a mile north of Milton near Edgewood at eight this morning. Four were killed and twelve injured. The freight flagman, blamed for the wreck, fled and is missing. The crash happened on a sharp grade in a deep cut, with two flat cars piled on the passenger coach.
